After days of uncertainty over who would direct the upcoming Disney and LucasFilms standalone untitled Hans Solo movie, they finally got their guy. Legendary director Ron Howard ("Apollo 13", "Backdraft") has agreed to take on the film. The announcement was made Thursday (June 22) on Starwars.com.
Howard is taking over the film after the original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller ("The Lego Movie"), were reportedly fired this week by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy over creative differences on the "Star Wars" film.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, sources are say that Howard would soon meet with the actors — Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Michael K. Williams — to settle everyone's nerves and see the rough edit.
Filming is set to resume on July 10.
Along with the new poster, its been revealed that a brand new Justice League trailer will drop on July 22nd, at this year's San Diego Comic-Con! So be ready!
The next film in Fox Studio's X-Men franchise, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is in the works and they are looking to a big name to fill a villainous role, Jessica Chastain (The Help).
Already set to reprise their roles in the X-Men Universe are Jennifer Lawrence (Raven / Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier) , Sophie Turner (Jean Grey) and Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy / Beast).
Simon Kinberg, longtime X-Men steward, is writing the script and is set to make his directorial debut with this project, which is aiming to retell the defining Dark Phoenix storyline from the early 1980s comic book.
This isn't the first attempt to bring the Dark Phoenix storyline to the big screen. In 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, which was critically maligned and rejected by fans, the same story was used, but obviously the studio is hoping for a better result this time. Kinberg and co. are looking to redeem that effort with their own take that sources say will hew closer to the classic story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.
If a deal is made, sources say Chastain would play Lilandra, the empress of an alien empire called the Shi’ar, who leads the quest to imprison and execute Dark Phoenix, sending her into conflict with the X-Men.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is slated to open Nov. 2, 2018.
