THE JOKER ORIGIN STORY MOVIE REPORTEDLY IN DEVELOPMENT

According to the folks over at IGN and Deadline, DC is developing a Joker stand alone movie that will act as an origin story. 

According to reports, a Joker origin film is in early development stages by Warner Bros. and DC, with Todd Phillips, who directed The Hangover, on board to direct and co-write the script with Scott Silver, who wrote Eminem's 8 Mile.

IGN is also reporting that the movie will not involve Jared Leto as the character. Instead, it will be part of an unannounced imprint of DC films that will look to tell one-off stories about beloved characters in the DC canon. (So, for example, even if this film is released, Jared Leto's Joker would still appear in any DCEU-related films, such as Suicide Squad 2).
