Once again Jay-Z has stopped the world because at midnight on June 30, 2017 he released his 13th studio album 4:44 exclusively on Tidal/Sprint.
When I say he stopped the world, HE STOPPED THE WORLD. It was like one big listening party on social media, rather it was Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram. All day, even today we are still talking about it. Honestly I don’t remember when the last time a album dropped at it had this much impact in the social media era (If you can think of one please comment). Jay also went back to his old flow, I call it a mix between The Blueprint, Black Album and American Gangster and that means he’s at his best.
4:44 is entirely produced by Chicago’s own No I.D. which is Kanye West mentor and previously worked with Hov on American Gangster on the song “Success” Feat. Nas, as well “Fallen” alongside Jermaine Dupri.
4:44 is Jay-Z best work since American Gangster and brings him back to his soulful sound. Jay does not hold back with the bars. I’m not about to go through every song but only standouts.
Jay breaks his silence and speak about Kanye.
He says to Kanye
But this 'f*ck everybody' attitude ain't natural
But you ain't a Saint, this ain't KumbaYe
But you got hurt because you did cool by 'Ye
You gave him 20 million without blinkin'
He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*ck was he thinkin'?
"F*ck wrong with everybody?" is what you sayin'
But if everybody's crazy, you're the one that's insane
Crazy how life works……
He also mentioned that KILL JAY-Z is about killing the ego and we all know Kanye has a ego lol.
THE STORY OF O.J.
On this song he begins to drop jewels on how we are as a culture need to do batter with our money and having a plan. Something that Jay really never touched on before but Jay is older and wiser, you cant just “turn up” all the time. It’s so many quotes on this one so I’m just going to give you the 2nd verse.
Financial freedom my only hope
F*ck livin' rich and dyin' broke
I bought some artwork for 1 million
2 years later, that shit worth 2 million
Few years later, that shit worth 8 million
I can't wait to give this sh*t to my children
Y'all think it's bougie, I'm like, it's fine
But I'm tryin' to give you a million dollars worth of game for $9.99
I turned that 2 to a 4, 4 to an 8
I turned my life into a nice first week release date
Y'all out here still takin' advances, huh?
Me and my n*ggas takin' real chances, uh
Y'all on the 'Gram holdin' money to your ear
There's a disconnect, we don't call that money over here, yeah
One of my personal favorites from the album, this is Hov in his bag and once it get to the 3rd verse smh the man blacks out. My friend Walt said “How does this n*gga get better with time like this?” lol Word..
F*ck a slice of the apple pie, want my own cake
Chargin' my own fate
Respect Jimmy Iovine
But he gotta respect the Elohim as a whole new regime
And niggas playin' for power, huh
So our music is ours
N*ggas only own houses
Ours was, "F*ck you, pay me"
Now it's, "F*ck payin' me, I pay you
Also he raps….
Oh, these that drugs
Heroin flow, I spaz on the stove
This is Hov, no flex zone, n*gga, who lied to you?
Look, you a pedestrian
Don't ever question the security I provided you
Oh y'all thought I was washed?
I'm at the cleaners
Launderin' dirty money like the Teamsters, huh
Throughout his catalog Jay is not to be vulnerable on a song, he’s more introspective but not vulnerable. He says that he woke up at 4:44AM to write this song and its powerful and the reason he named the album after it. He also says this is one of the best songs he ever written. 4:44 is going in depth about cheating on Beyonce and trying to save his marriage.
you mature faster than me
I wasn't ready, so I apologize
I've seen the innocence leave your eyes
I still mourn this death, I apologize for all the stillborns
'Cause I wasn't present, your body wouldn't accept it
I could post more that’s powerful as is……
If you haven’t heard this great body of work you need to stop sleeping. It’s a few more albums that’s coming the remaining of the year and in my opinion its going to be very difficult to be better than this album.
Here is a few screenshots of feed back from the album from artist in the industry.
