Few days ago Wale released his 5th LP “Shine”, yes it’s his 5th album and I had to say that twice because a lot of artist doesn’t make it to their 3rd album.
This time around Wale took a different approach with his sound, he test this particular sound on his mixtape “Summer On Sunset”. Through that mixtape he showed more of a singing side, also a different sound with the production. Personally I didn’t know what to expect from his album because I wasn’t feeling this new sound, plus a lot of people wasn’t talking about his mixtape. While working on this new album Wale had his 1st child and of course his friendly back n fourth with J. Cole, which I think lit a fire in him.
NOW WITH THE REVIEW
“Shine” is a very dope album, it’s not a skip/weak song on it, the production is dope and the features were done correct, not forced. As Wale shown in the pass project he has grown with the melodies, this album is full of them for majority of the album. Features from Lil Wayne, G-Easy, Major Lazer, Wiz Kid, Dua Lipa, J Balvin, Travis Scott, Davido & Olamide, Chris Brown, Phil Ade’ & Zyla Moon.
Scarface Rozay Gotti
Fish N Grits Ft, Travis Scott
Heaven On Earth FT. Chris Brown
Smile Ft. Phil Ade’ & Zyla Moon
On “Scarface Rozay Gotti” Wale raps plenty of standout bars
Sitting so close to the Cavs/Wizards game
I get any type of wisdom from Lebron James
You n*ggas shy, copy me all day
Look at you talking, talking all day
Look at you acting
I could put you in casting
Cause my n*gga will shoot you in the broad ways
Wale delivers dope wordplay and clever metaphors and punchlines above.
Heaven on Earth Ft. Chris Brown, they both go back and fourth for the 1st two verses and then Wale takes off solo for the 3rd verse. This song they are talking to lady in their life and to them it can be Heaven On Earth if they join.
On "Smile" Wale gets introspective and conscious as we know he can
Entire 2nd verse
The Alt Rights hate us
Some black baby mommas hate us
We only learn half of the drama, other side crazy
On behalf of Charlamagne I'm sure he ain't trading sides
Maybe I should meet Tomi Lahren, I'll Lauryn Hill her
Train her; she miseducated anyway
Prolly hate the color of my face
I'm just a young black rapping ass African
Ain't never wanted to have it and now he has it his own way
I'm smoking purple, the law enforcement be murking brothers
The moon lit and I'm Cottonmouth like Mahershala
Its like you got a curse if your currency low
The world is a dirty f*cking experiment
They don't care if its hurting us
Black lives matter, 'cause black lives target practice
Can't even imagine what would happen with no phone cameras
Black lives matter, black love the dopest ever
Just wanna remind you, I think it's time that we show it better
Overall this album is a vibe, I can hear this album being played at parties at the beach and summer BBQs, Even though he's projected to sell 22,000 and some will say its a flop numbers wise, Wale has delivered a great body of work.
Heres a couple songs below that's off the album.
